The Man Behind The Animation: Studio Ghibli Co-founder Isao Takahata

Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata passed away at 82. Takahata founded Studio Ghibli in 1985 with director Hayao Miyazaki. Takahata worked in animation beginning in 1959 at Toei studios. He went on to produce works such as Castle in the Sky. In 1988 Takahata directed Grave of the Fireflies, a story about two orphans during World War II. In 2015 he was nominated for an Oscar for The Tale of Princess Kaguya. Fans and colleagues offered condolences and shared work from the late artist.Takahata was a prestigious figure in the film and Japanese animation industry whose critical aclaimed talent will be missed .

  1. I’m listening to the soundtracks right now. this is my first time hearing this. thank you soo much for sharing this BBC twitter doc/bit. I really liked what he had to say about the chinese scrolls, and how it relates to anime. i will need to figure out what the title of his book is. (i hope it came out?) i’m just getting back into drawing, and Studio Ghibli is a huge inspiration for me.
